Northwest Fisheries Science Center Celebrates 75 years of Innovative Science at the Montlake Facility

| Marker Dedication Ceremony |
| Honored guest and NOAA Administrator Vice Admiral Conrad C. Lautenbacher, Jr., US Navy (ret.) and Casey Brennan (NOS National Geodetic Survey) dedicate a commemorative geodetic marker—the first in NOAA Fisheries-- that identifies the Montlake Laboratory as a historic building. |

| The marker is also a working tool in the science of positioning, and joins hundreds of thousands of geodetic markers in the National Spatial Reference System currently used to determine position, height, shoreline and gravity throughout the United States. |

| Meg Owen, representative from Office of Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire, formally presents NWFSC’s Director Usha Varanasi with a special proclamation honoring her 30-year career with NOAA Fisheries and service to the state of Washington. |

| Science Fair: Technology Then and Now |
| Science staff from five research divisions provided hands on, interactive science stations featuring advances in technology over past seven decades, including molecular genetic techniques; underwater mapping of groundfish habitat; fish tagging technologies; video imaging of contaminant impacts on fish; assessment of salmon growth, reproduction and olfactory imprinting; and use of genomics to study of host-pathogen interactions. |
