Sherman's Lagoon Award

The Silver Sherman Award recognizes NOAA people who excel at their jobs, achieve a milestone that contributes significantly or critically towards a particular program's goal, or demonstrates leadership toward process improvement of a significant magnitude.

2017 Laurie Mukai
Ms. Mukai has tirelessly, effectively, and repeatedly managed the group travel process for major scientific meetings. Without her attention, many NMFS scientists would have been denied access to professional conferences crucial to the NMFS scientific enterprise. She has also carried responsibilities as NOAA┬┐s National Research Council postdoc coordinator, a thankless task, but one that has paid dividends to NOAA.

For skillfully overseeing the administration of the Conservation Biology Division, allowing scientists to focus on the science as he successfully meets the business and operations tasks. Paul's stability and competenceis the basis for a positive frame-of-mind that nurtures a sense of security and comfort in Division staff.
