Monster Seminar Jam - The Secret Lives of Crustaceans and Cod
Dr. Win Watson, Ecology, University of New Hampshire
During the past decade we have used both time lapse underwater video and ultrasonic telemetry to continuously observe and quantify the behavior of lobsters, horseshoe crabs and fish. As a result we have gained new insight into their daily activity rhythms, homing behavior and interactions with nets, traps, each other and predators. In this talk I will present my "Top Ten" findings, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different types of research tools and, if time permits, talk about how these data might impact how we grow fish and manage various fisheries.
