Monster Seminar JAM - Evaluating Habitat Restoration for Pacific Salmon: Results of Case Studies and Guidance for Monitoring Design
Dr. Phil Roni
Environmental Conservation Division, Northwest Fisheries Science Center
Thousands of habitat rehabilitation projects have been implemented throughout the Pacific Northwest in an effort to increase numbers of Pacific salmon. Agencies, local governments, environmental organizations are struggling to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of these actions. In this presentation, I will describe the guidance on monitoring design that we have developed to guide creation of robust monitoring and evaluation programs for habitat rehabilitation. In addition, I will describe case studies we are working on that emphasize the steps described, effective rehabilitation strategies and the inherent challenges in designing evaluation programs for habitat rehabilitation projects at different scales.
