Congressional visit

This past weekend, Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici toured the NOAA offices in Newport, OR to learn more about the agency's efforts at tracking marine debris and other issues affecting Oregon's coastal economy. The visit was jointly hosted by Oregon State University (OSU), NOAA’s Marine Operations Center – Pacific (MOC–P), and NWFSC.

Congresswoman Bonamici visited the marine life in the touch tanks found in the OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center’s Visitor Center, toured NOAA’s MOC-P facility, and got a close view of the portion of a dock that washed ashore near Newport more than a year after the devastating 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami. NWFSC’s Dr. Bill Peterson also provided a briefing on ocean conditions and the suite of indicators scientists are using to develop accurate salmon forecasts.
