This chapter describes on-going regional projects sponsored by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and its partners to forecast harmful algal blooms and water-borne pathogens in waters of the US coastal oceans and Great Lakes. Collectively, these provide an introduction to the general problems, the approaches employed, and the products generated, and the on-going attempts to improve these ecological forecasts and transition them into operational products and services.
