Closely spaced Nansen bottle casts taken south of Adak Island confirm the presence of geostrophic velocities in excess of 60 cm/sec in the Alaskan Stream. A volume transport of 5 × 106 m3/sec (referred to 1000 dbar) during summer increased to 10 × 106 m3/sec during winter without an increase in velocity.
