Methods for combining biological and economic data to increase the cost-effectiveness of conservation

This project covers new approaches for salmon recovery planning and "critical habitat" designation for species listed under the Endangered Species Act. By assessing the biological benefits and economic costs of conservation actions, the approach enables NOAA Fisheries to protect habitat more cost-effectively. NOAA Fisheries has used this approach for designating critical habitat for West Coast salmon and steelhead, and for Southern Resident killer whales.
