Behavioral ecology

The Behavioral Ecology Team's research focuses on evaluating the effects of artificial propagation programs on natural populations of salmon and steelhead trout and developing techniques to improve the efficiency of aquaculture systems. Quantifying the behavior of juvenile and adult fish in the laboratory and natural environments provides guidance on how culture systems can be improved to optimize in-culture performance, induce natural post-release behaviors and improve survival, and reduce impacts of cultured fish on natural populations.
