Juvenile sablefish have a very high growth rate making them a great candidate for commercial production. However, no grow-out diets have been developed for this species and, preliminary investigations suggest that they do not grow optimally on diets designed for other fish species. To maximize this growth potential, diets that are specific for sablefish are being developed using mixed model approaches. Further, growth of sablefish is dimorphic with females growing faster than males. To take advantage of this, stocks of XX male sablefish have been created that can be used to produce all female stocks for enhanced grow-out.
