Marine larval rearing

In commercial aquaculture operations, the larval stage of marine fish requires a significant live feeds investment. In the sablefish, we are investigating ways to hasten and contract this stage by rearing larvae at higher water temperatures. Sablefish require an initial rotifer phase followed by feeding with Artemia napulii prior to artificial feeds. We are also investigating the effects of weaning sablefish larvae onto artificial feeds prior to Artemia and the effect that this may have on growth and development.
