Optimizing reproduction

In captivity, it is desirable to synchronize reproduction to produce pulses of offspring that are of the same age but come from mixed genetic backgrounds. We are conducting research to optimize the use of hormones such as gonadotropin-releasing hormone to initiate the spawning cycle in sablefish females and techniques, such as ultrasound, to assess the precise stage of maturation for hormone treatment and for the collection of eggs. We are also developing optimized fertilization protocols for short/long-term storage of sablefish sperm.
