Marine Fish and Aquaculture

The Aquaculture and the Marine Fish and Shellfish Biology programs are focused on investigating basic biological processes of marine organisms and applying the knowledge acquired to develop new species for commercial aquaculture, help improve stock assessments, the management of capture fisheries, and to restore native populations within the Pacific Northwest. Research approaches involving physiology, genetics, molecular biology, behavior and biochemistry are being applied to study reproduction, development, nutrition and population structure of sablefish, the Olympia oyster and other marine organisms, as well as the development of new fish feeds containing plant-derived ingredients and minimal levels of forage fish.
