Diagnostic method development, application for surveillance, and technology transfer

Sensitive, specific detection is essential to understanding the biology and ecology of microbes. When detection techniques and methods are developed, they must function in real-world applications to be useful for shellfish surveillance, aquatic animal surveys, and environmental monitoring. Sharing and transferring methods and technologies to entities such as tribal natural resource managers and local governments strengthens surveillance networks and improves data comparability.
