Pacific Halibut Sorting Grate Excluder

This video shows an industry-developed sorting grate excluder designed to reduce Pacific halibut bycatch in the west coast groundfish bottom trawl fishery. Various groundfish species are shown interacting with the excluder with Dover sole being the dominant species. This 2011 footage is courtesy of F/V Last Straw. The excluder was manufactured by Foulweather Trawl, LLC. Funding for the loaner video camera system used in this work was provided by the NOAA Fisheries Service National Bycatch Reduction Engineering Program.

Pacific Halibut Flexible Sorting Grate Excluder

This in situ video shows a flexible sorting grate excluder designed to reduce Pacific halibut bycatch in the west coast groundfish bottom trawl fishery. English sole, petrale sole, Dover sole, Pacific cod, and various other groundfishes interact with the excluder that consists of two longitudinal vertical sorting grate panels and an upward-directed exit ramp. The video includes an aft-facing view and forward-facing viewing from behind the exit ramp. This 2011 footage is courtesy of NOAA Fisheries Service Northwest Fisheries Science Center and the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission. The excluder was manufactured by Dantrawl, Inc. Research funding was provided by the NOAA Fisheries Service National Bycatch Reduction Engineering Program.

Rigid Sorting Grate Excluder

This video shows an industry-developed rigid sorting grate excluder designed to reduce the bycatch of fishes in the west coast pink shrimp (also known as ocean shrimp) trawl fishery. Various species of fish and pink shrimp are shown. This 2011 footage is courtesy of F/V Pacific Dove and F/V Swell Rider. Funding for the loaner video camera system used in this work was provided by the NOAA Fisheries Service National Bycatch Reduction Engineering Program.

Pacific Halibut Excluder

This video shows footage of an industry developed sorting grate ramp excluder designed to reduce Pacific halibut bycatch in the west coast groundfish bottom trawl fishery. Various groundfish species interacting with the excluder device are shown. This 2010 footage is courtesy of Pacific Seafood Company and F/V Calamari. The excluder was manufactured by Foulweather Trawl, LLC. Funding for the loaner video camera system used in this work was provided by the NOAA Fisheries Service National Bycatch Reduction Engineering Program.

Chinook Salmon and Rockfish Bycatch Reduction Device

This video shows an open escape window bycatch reduction device (BRD) designed to reduce Chinook salmon and rockfish bycatch in the west coast Pacific hake fishery. This video shows a Chinook salmon with juvenile Pacific hake, a widow rockfish with juvenile Pacific hake, and a canary rockfish with adult Pacific herring exiting the trawl using the BRD. This 2010 footage is courtesy of NOAA Fisheries Service Northwest Fisheries Science Center and the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission. The BRD was manufactured by Foulweather Trawl, LLC. Research funding was provided by the NOAA Fisheries Service National Bycatch Reduction Engineering Program.

Humboldt Squid

This footage shows Humboldt Squid interacting with a bycatch reduction device (BRD) designed to reduce Chinook salmon and rockfish bycatch in the west coast Pacific hake fishery. This 2009 video footage is courtesy of the NOAA Fisheries Service Northwest Fisheries Science Center and the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission. The BRD was manufactured by Foulweather Trawl, LLC. Research funding was provided by the NOAA Fisheries Service National Bycatch Reduction Engineering Program.
